The brand
Textaafoam is an upholstery fabric supplier in the Netherlands and a major player in the European furniture and bedding industry. In 2018 the company began planning a range of sustainable fabrics for its environmentally minded customers.
Industry
Polyester is by far the most common raw material in Textaafoam's market, so rPET was the obvious substitution. Finding a supplier was not the problem. There are companies processing PET into yarn all over the world. Finding one that was both reliable and certified was the problem, and it took time.
What we made
The Woven Bottles brand, developed with Textaafoam, along with its sub-brands Regain and Soil. Textaafoam now has a single partner across the whole chain, from the collection of used PET bottles through yarn production and on to logistics.
For our market, polyester is by far the most commonly used raw material. That is the reason why our product development department was keen to use RPET, made from used plastic bottles. There are providers all over the world that process PET into yarns, but we were looking for a fully reliable and certified partner, whom we found in Waste2Wear.
